Vamp Fest Suppports Phoenix of NOLA

Vampire Fest Partners with Phoenix of New Orleans

Pasadena, Calif. June 29, 2009 - The Vampire Film Series and Festival a.k.a Vampire Fest will come home to New Orleans October 2009. Since part of our mission is to join in the effort to rebuild this beautiful city, Vampire Fest is proud to announce that we are partnering with Phoenix Of New Orleans (PNOLA).

PNOLA is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting the recover of the residents of the Lower Mid-City neighborhood of New Orleans by providing direct assistance as well as developing community assets that ensure a vital neighborhood. Vampire Fest has built a portal to PNOLA but you can get more information about this wonderful charity at www.pnola.org.

Rachel Massey, volunteer coordinator of Phoenix of New Orleans and an active member of the Vampire Fest team, recently said, “One of the biggest challenges facing local recovery non-profits today is dispelling this misguided notion that New Orleans has been rebuilt. It's been more than three years since the storm, but there is still a lot of work to be done, only now with even fewer resources. The Phoenix of New Orleans is constantly seeking donations from individuals, businesses, organizations, and foundations through fundraisers and solicitation to supplement the federated funds we receive from the United Way of Greater New Orleans. Currently, PNOLA does not receive membership dues or government funding.”

On June 17, 2009, PNOLA completed the restoration of Ms. Hilda Frank’s Hollygroove house. After living in a FEMA trailer since 2005 and losing everything including her health, Ms. Frank finally came home because of PNOLA.

Vampire Fest continues to receive submissions from filmmakers throughout the globe, proving the lure of the vampire is global. We are proud to declare 2009 the Year of the International Vampire. Since the legend of the werewolf and other supernatural creatures are interconnected with that of the vampire, Vampire Fest also accepts films of the gothic, zombie and werewolf, witch or ghost genre.

Please visit our site at www.vampirefilmfestival.com or contact Reel Energy at (626) 449-1902.

The Message Board Is BACK, Baby!

Lady ~A and I finally had time to sit down and get the message board set back up, with improvements. It's now running a more spam-proof version of PHPBB3, and we've installed Google Friend Connect, which means new users can create an account and log in with your Google/Gmail, Yahoo!, AOL or OpenID account!

This feature seems spotty in Internet Explorer, be warned. Google and Microsoft'll have to work that out. You should be using Firefox anyway!

ARVLFC Gallery Moved to Flickr.com; new Twitter Account

Given all the problems we've had self-hosting the photo gallery, we decided to move it to Flickr.com - find it at http://www.flickr.com/photos/vampirelestatfanclub . If you're a Flickr user, add ARVLFC as a contact/friend!

The ARVLFC also has a bouncing baby Twitter account at http://www.twitter.com/arvlfc - add us to be kept up-to-date on developments as we approach the big party on Halloween!

Categories for Endless Night Costume Contest

This is being cross posted here for our friends at Endless Night because they realize that many ARVLFC partygoers attend the Endless Night event and take pride in their costuming ablilities!

Endless Night Costume Contest Categories

Baroque/Period
Fetish/Hardcore/Steampunk (rubber, latex, pvc, apparatus)
Horror (vampire, zombie, monster, gore etc.)
Crowd Pleasers (something clever, characters, movie personas, etc.)

There will be a huge prize bag for each winner of their category and there will be a cash prize for the Best In Show of all categories!

Judges: Lady~A, Lord~J, Father Sebastiaan, Nancy Freeman

Why them?

Lady~A: Professional, published makeup artist, costume party promoter and attendee with 20 years of costume ball experience.

Lord~J: Self taught custom Costume Designer, costume party promoter and attendee with 15 years experience.

Father Sebastiaan: Because it is HIS event and he has extensive experience in the fetish/vampire/costume world.

Nancy Freeman: Professional costume designer with credentials from the Art Institute of Chicago in fashion theory, costume construction, textiles and design.

This is not a popularity contest. We will be looking closely at original designs and makeup. We look for custom design, originality, execution and passion. We are very particular and judges have to be unanimous in their decision.

Those who want to enter will be called onstage and the judges will wheedle those down to true contestants based on the criteria above. DO NOT TAKE REJECTION PERSONALLY. No prefab costumes(from a bag or a costume store) or if you look like every other vampire in the Quarter, you will not be selected.

Judges cannot enter the contest.

Saints of Ruin

As most of you saw the band announcement and might be familiar with the Kinky Tuscaderos who played last year, I give you some info on a more unfamiliar band that we have this year, Saints of Ruin.

Check them out. Please do your Lady~A a favor and stick around at the Ball to hear them play! Their cover of one our favorites, Bloodletting by Concrete Blonde is pretty kick ass!

BAND ANNOUNCEMENTS for 2009's BLOOD AND GOLD BALL!

Alrighty Gang, we have some updates for you about this year’s Blood and Gold Ball! First off, it was an extremely difficult decision making process in the band selection for this year. We had more great contenders than ever before and we would like to thank every band that asked to join us for doing so; you will be kept on the list for future events!

Our musical acts for this year will include the medieval stylings of Marc Gunn. The Kinky Tuscaderos will join us again with their distinctive music that is all New Orleans. Our third act is Saints of Ruin, bringing us the Dark Gift of San Francisco sounds! We are absolutely thrilled to have all these talented people entertain this year and we promise that there are some surprises in store that you are sure to love!

Before we close this entry we have a tidbit of information for you on this year’s Wine Tasting Event! Plans are still being finalized with Jez as far as venue and menu but there is the strong scent of ABSYNTHE in the air. Come thirsty for this one!

Talk to you again very, very soon!!!

Much Love,
Your Krewe
